Nick Sloan and His Love of Ramen

Nick moved to Japan in 1997 to experience more life living abroad after two years in Khabarovsk, Russia as a United States Peace Corps Volunteer. He planned to stay in Japan for 1 or 2 years, but ended up getting married to a Japanese woman and started a family. Prior to getting married, the friends he made introduced him to late night clubs followed by delicious ramen meals. Nick feel in love with Ramen! One of the first places he went was called Ippudo ramen in Nagoya. There was always a long line outside. Their Tonkotsu ramen was phenomenal. Nick began seeking out new ramen places to try around Nagoya, Kyoto, Hiroshima, and beyond. He was fasinated by the different toppings and flavors. Also, he loved to watch the chef(s) from the counter and see their process...trying to learn as much as he could. Of course, these ramen masters kept their recipes secret, but Nick learned what he could by observing. In 2006, Nick and his Japanese wife divorced, and it was time to move back to the USA with his three little boys( after 9 years to be exact), Nick thought to open a ramen food cart in Y'bor city. However, 7th avenue was no longer a walking only zone on the weekends and he was going to be raising three little boys by himself. So, he put his dream of opening a ramen restaurant on hold, took a job teaching in the Pinellas County School system, raised his beautiful boys, and worked on his recipes. Flash forward to 2025, his boys are grown up, he has an amazing and supportive wife, a wonderful step-daughter, and the opportunity to bring this dormant dream to life. Say hello to Nick Sloan's Adventures in Ramen! It has been an amazing adventure leading up to this point and the adventure continues. We hope you enjoy the authentic tastes of Japan brought to you through the palate of Nick Sloan....a ramen lover who hopes you will become a ramen lover, too! Thank you for stopping by!
